What is a Deliver Instance

This article describes the structure of a Deliver Instance and outlines how to add and configure semantic endpoints to deliver data from a Prepare Instance to front-end reporting and analytics tools.

The Deliver Instance is the area in Jet Analytics Data Integration where you expose prepared data to end users and reporting tools. It acts as the final layer in the data pipeline, making data available through semantic endpoints such as Power BI Premium, Tabular, Tableau, Qlik, and CSV. You can add both the Deliver Instance and the accompanying semantic endpoints in the Jet Analytics Portal. You can always edit a Deliver Instance to add more endpoints or remove existing ones.

Add a Deliver Instance

In the Jet Analytics Portal, navigate to Data Estate > Instances, click Add new instance, and select Add deliver instance. Provide the following general details:

  • Name: Indicates the name you want to use for the Deliver Instance.
  • Description: Indicates a description of the instance. The description is displayed in Jet Analytics Data Integration and on the instance details page.
  • Log Retention Days: Indicates the number of days execution logs should be kept. The default is 90 days.
  • Team Development: Indicates whether multiple developers can develop on the instance at the same time. Since Deliver Instances are relatively small, this is not typically recommended.

Note: All connection credentials are protected with 256-bit AES encryption.

Add Endpoints

After providing the general details, add the endpoints you want to use with the Deliver Instance. In the Add endpoints list, click on the type of endpoint you want to add, and then click Add an endpoint. A new form appears with the fields required by the selected endpoint type. The Name field is required for all endpoint types. The supported endpoint types are:

  • CSV Endpoint: Automates the export of data to CSV files.
  • Power BI Premium Endpoint: Delivers data directly to a Power BI Premium workspace.
  • Tabular Endpoint: Creates an Analysis Services Tabular model on a specified server.
  • Tableau Endpoint: Delivers data to a Tableau environment.
  • Qlik Endpoint: Delivers data to a Qlik environment.

Note: Jet Analytics Data Integration must be refreshed to retrieve the newly created Deliver Instances and endpoints.

Edit a Deliver Instance

In the Jet Analytics Portal, navigate to Data Estate > Instances. Select your instance to open the instance details page, click Edit, update the properties, and then click Save.

Note: Jet Analytics Data Integration must be refreshed to retrieve the latest changes for the Deliver Instance and endpoints.

Delete a Deliver Instance

In the Jet Analytics Portal, navigate to Data Estate > Instances. Click the Delete button next to your instance. In the Delete dialog, enter the instance name to confirm, add a comment, and then click Delete.

Test Endpoint Connection

Before deploying and executing a Deliver Instance, verify that the endpoint connection is valid. In Jet Analytics Data Integration, right-click on the instance, select Edit Instance, select the semantic endpoint from the list, and choose Test Endpoint Connection to confirm a successful connection.
